Growing up, I always felt different. I hated public speaking and reading out loud in class; I could count the number of close friends I had on one hand; and during recess, I preferred to sneak off and read a book in the school library rather than play outside with the other kids. In the past week, school districts and restaurants have closed, events have been canceled, and Seattle has transformed from a bustling tech city into a ghost town. Some may call this reaction overboard, but from a public health perspective, it is absolutely necessary. Washington State was the first state in the United States to have a confirmed case of the novel coronavirus COVID-19, and it is up to us to set a good example for the rest of the country.
